hey dudes. i had a pretty good weekend that mostly involved yarn and fighting. on saturday, christina and i went down to loop and spool, the adjacent fancy knitting and sewing stores on south street. holy shit ! the yarn ! the notions ! we both got yarn to make these mittens (requires ravelry log-in)
and i got some brown sheep yarn in blue to make the golden compass hood
featured there on a creepy mannequin head. the girls at the sewing store basically went apeshit over how cute we were and we’re both going to take sewing classes there next year.
saturday night, we went up to mike’s house and watched ufc 106 with mike, his work friend, his sister, and his brother in law. he had a bunch of weird snacks… shelled peanuts, peanuts in the shell, and peanut brittle? but we had a really good time and i was happy to see griffin win after his last (weird, embarrassing) loss. tito’s done ! the rest of the fights were good too, though i think koschek obviously faked that eyepoke and then poked johnson on purpose. because he is a massive douche and i hope he dies of hair bleach poisoning.
last night, i had dinner with jeanne at su xing house and browbeated her into hanging out with me more ! i’m also going to knit her a bunch of junk. i had tofu and eggplant in spicy garlic sauce (which is what i always get there) and despite touting “colon-rectum” health as a benefit of vegetarianism on their front page, i got really awful diarrhea by the time i’d gotten to trader joe’s after dinner. it was the worst- the seconddddd i got into the bathroom, someone started knocking, which is my ultimate worst life scenario.
i ended up getting lots of neat food for us to make for dinner though, and some chocolate pudding (don’t think too hard about this), and i made it home in time to knit and watch curb your enthusiasm with christina.
i’m pretty anxious for this work week to end. we get out at noon tomorrow, and we can wear jeans (useless to me cause i’m pretty sure i don’t own jeans? i guess i could wear a skirt), but like… why make me get up early and come in for three hours? why not just let me stay home and watch the golden girls.
i have to get back to work but i wanted to mention two more things that are both purple- one is this ridiculous fucking hat from anthropologie:

man. yesterday i had to work late (well, i didn’t have to, i slacked off a lot during the day and wanted to complete my to-do list) and while i was continuing to fuck around, i came across an article about the eggo waffle shortage. despite never eating an eggo waffle before in my life, i suddenly had to have them. it was like the run on the bank in it’s a wonderful life. christina picked some up for me and i made breakfast for dinner, which is factually the best meal in the world.
final verdict on eggo waffles? blehhh. they don’t actually taste like anything, and since i don’t really like butter or maple syrup (especially not the fancy maple syrup we have- i like the kind that is just corn syrup and… brown) i wasn’t super into them. it won’t be hard for me to “leggo” of them if the shortage continues. ha ha, fuck you ! you just read that !
i think since it’s almost christmas and it’s time for everyone to buy a bunch of stupid shit for other people equaling the amount of shit that person buys them i would post links to a bunch of etsy stuff i like:
decorette decal store ! i bought some purple dinosaurs from here and having actually used them yet, but most of their stuff is really pretty and reasonably priced compared to other wall decal companies:
ragtrader is probably my favorite etsy store of all time, and probably my most-hustled etsy store. i have a thousand of her necklaces and they’re all beautiful and i get a million compliments on them (plus most cool weird jewelry only comes in silver and i appreciate the brass-y color)

quiet doing makes the best wallets ever- my criteria for a wallet was a billfold, credit card slots, and a clear ID pocket, and someone recommended her shop to me. i’ve had my wallet for about 3 years now and it’s held up super well (carried in my pocket constantly) and i still get compliments on it.
mama’s little babies isn’t exactly my style but i think a lot of this stuff is really neat looking !
little houses has the coolest fucking coats and sweatshirts ever, and i contacted her to confirm: she will also make custom garments in plus sizes ! i’m definitely thinking about ordering something even though i look like an uncircumsized dick in high collars !
sew moe makes clothes that look like how i would dress if i was thin. ask her if she makes plus sizes cause i’m too lazy ! or if you aren’t fat, buy something !
tippy thai makes bags that look like every single bag i buy ever in my life (not that i have a lot of bags, and mostly carry a messenger bag or grocery sack or giant tote bag)
moon raven designs- hey, don’t stop paying attention ! anyway this guy makes jewelry designed for jeanne, me, and goths.
phew, that was a lot ! there’s also one amazing bag seller i’m keeping to myself because (cough) one of her bags is on my christmas list.
oh, p.s. yesterday i went to aveda and got my eyebrows waxed. i don’t want to talk about it. it took two women and now i have two mismatched eyebrows. also everyone at aveda looks the same and creeps me out. $11 hardly seems like a bargain for mangled eyebrows.

man. i barely slept at all the night before last, so when i got home from work yesterday i passed out for three hours and only woke up in time to annoy christina through 1/3 of gossip girl. i just think it’s important that she answer hard-hitting questions for me, like “who is that?,” “is that really lady gaga?,” “REALLY?,” and “why is gossip girl so gossipy???”
i’m sort of glued to my desk today so i had a coworker bring me a seitan cheesesteak from magic carpet with extra hot sauce. this obviously is not, in any way, a cheese steak- it has cheese, but also has seitan, possibly tahini, lettuce, carrots, onions, peppers (picked off, because bell peppers are not food) and radishes.
it was pretty great though- i usually only have their vegetarian MEATBALL CUP. anyway, i’m being super productive which i can’t stop bragging about because i’ve never actually been productive at work in my life.
my plans for this week are kind of sketchy- this weekend, mouse and mike and i are going to see some fights (one of the main events is a female fight ! and someone from mouse’s school is competing !) and then i’m possibly going to watch ufc 106 with them? that’s up in the air right now though. i also plan to hug the shit out of christina, clean our kitchen, and possibly make a cobbler?
the last time i made a cobbler-type thing, i tried making a blueberry grunt (technically not a grunt because it was baked and not steamed/boiled) from the website with the most horrible name in the world and it was bland and watery and the blueberry juice soaking into the biscuit dough looked like disgusting mold. maybe i will just stick with an apple crisp or apple pie !
man this entry has been all about food which indicates to me that i need to go buy some kind of gross snack. i’ve been really into pumpkin spice lattes lately even though i hate coffee and pumpkin spices. i’ll write more later ! bye !

hey dudes ! today my to-do list is pretty full, but one of my line items is “blog” and i will totally blog now.
on friday, christina, mouse, and i went to south philly to see mike b’s dinosaur art show. WAIT I HAVE TO TELL YOU. on the way there, we stopped at a gas station on gray’s ferry and there was a dude walking around with no shirt on. we were all like “huh” cause he was going into the gas station with no shirt, and it was cold and drizzly outside. he totally had rock hard nipples and everything. he was just a regular kind of skinny kind of muscley young dude. anyway, he got into his car and pulled around and HIS FRONT LICENSE PLATE SAID “NO SHIRT”
anyway, about mike’s show ! jeanne warned me in advance that it would be incredible, and it was totally amazing. i was blown away by everything ! he even drew some dinosaurs that i hadn’t heard of, and i’m a dinosseur ! the two i loved the most were already sold, but i still got my third choice:
i also got to see jesse riggins who is the greatest, and eat some ruffled potato chips, which i might be interested in now? after the show, we went to dinner with jeanne and mike and some of their friends at adobe. christina and i were super proud of ourselves because we like… left west philly. and stayed out past 10 !
on saturday, christina and i accomplished another huge milestone: we totally watched all of our netflix. we had the ruby in the smoke and the shadow in the north, which are based on the sally lockhart mysteries by philip pullman.
i read these books a few years ago (christina hasn’t read them but she loves billie piper !) and absolutely loved them. i was pleasantly surprised because i think the ‘his dark materials’ books are garbage. there were moments in the first books that were super chilling and scary, and the premise of the third book is so harrowing and anxiety-inducing that i haven’t actually been able to finish it yet ! the film adaptations (wooo masterpiece theatre) were really good, too, but i also love billie piper. i highly recommend the books and the movies !
we also watched girls rock !, a documentary about the rock’n'roll camp for girls, and we cheered and got goosebumps and cried a billion times. it was seriously so adorable and inspiring and depressing (like, that seven year olds are vocalizing problems in their lives and what they are vocalizing is sexism and misogyny) and i also highly recommend it.
it also made christina and i want to do a x-ray spex coverband next halloween because christina can play the saxophone and i can barely sing !
saturday night, mouse came over and we all got chinese food and watched UFC 105, which was about what you’d expect from a non-pay per view UFC event. it was nice to see randy win, and also this guy has the same body as mouse:
so it was totally weird to watch him fight. that guy also has a fake black belt in brazilian jiu jitsu, something mouse could easily fake !
on sunday, diana came down and gave me a beautiful haircut (no pictures yet because i had to comb my hair for it and it doesn’t look right without my tangles) and dyed/cut christina’s hair. then i had indian buffet with mike and mouse (which sucked cause i was barely hungry) and gelato (also barely hungry). i got half chocolate malt and half single malt whiskey though and it was amazing:
anywayyy. now i’m feeling overwhelmed and weird and kind of busting my ass to get some work done, so i have to go.
p.s. i love my current life, almost 100%

hey dogs. i’m still sick ! i was up all night coughing and woke up at 8:55 this morning (a problem since i start work at 8, but not really a problem because my boss is cool). buuuhuuuu.
so, i won a blog contest on katie’s blog, sailthouforth.com which was a $100 gift certificate to shopbop.com. they are a fancy designer clothing store with lots of fancy stuff. there was a bag i liked when i entered that has since sold out, and the boots i liked are also sold out in my size, so i think i’m going to give in and buy one of them sportsacs because i need a travel bag the size of a weekender. that way i don’t feel like a total sellout materialistic asshole because i’m getting something i need. unfortunately sportsacs are super ugly- i’ve narrowed it down to these two choices:
pretty ugly, right? and i alwayyyyyys make fun of le sportsacs ! but i do need a bag this size, and i’m getting it for free ! thank you again to katie.
last night mouse and i went to green line and we mostly talked about vale tudo and made plans for the upcoming weekend. more about that in a minute ! when i got home, my christina was already asleep so i played wow and read some young adult books.
right now i’m reading a short series of books by james howe, author of bunnicula. the new books are not about bunnicula but about a group of kids in middle school who get teased a lot. i guess the book has inspired middle schools around the country to have no-name days where people can’t call each other names, which is cool, but the books are pretty mediocre.
tonight i am supposed to go to mike’s art show at benna’s ! i feel like total crap and fridays are usually my night to have pajama time and sleep but it’s mike ! and dinosaurs ! so i’m making a valiant effort and i’m going to drag christina with me. tomorrow i’m going to get an eyebrow wax and manicure at the aveda school ($19 total !) and possibly going to watch doctor who with mouse. sunday diana is going to be here and i get to see her and get a much needed haircut.
i want to note that having a blog again is making me feel weird. i feel a lot of weird pressure to talk about clothes and bags and BUYING things because that seems to be the nature of a lot of blogs, when i’ve spent the past few months both being very smart and criticizing everyone else for being materialistic.

man, i’m the most productive person ever ! at work anyway- unfortunately i’ve started being super productive at work (per last entry) and somehow have managed to become the least productive ever in my personal life? yesterday i came home from work, fell asleep, raided, and fell back asleep.
the raid went okay. attendance was low so we kind of scrambled for people, so it was slightly more of an ordeal than it should have been. toc 25 is a joke but we had a few wipes because we had a few inexperienced players on.
since i didn’t do anything, i have very little to talk about besides like, maybe knitting? i’ve been lazy about knitting lately. i’m working on a black flag scarf for jeanne for christmas:
intarsia is actually pretty easy, but i get frustrated easily and make sad whimpery noises every time my yarn gets tangled, so i haven’t gotten too far yet. i’m also still working on the february lady sweater for myself.
i’m almost done with the top part, but i burnt out on it a little because knitting a sweater for a fat person in a plain knit stitch is actually pretty fucking boring. what else? i’m also making the star-crossed slouchy beret for an internet secret santa person:
i’m using worsted weight yarn instead of aran though so maybe it’ll come out slightly uh, less slouchy because a slouchy beret is kind of silly.
i guess i alienated the two dudes who read this by talking about women’s work, huh. hey sean blah blah star trek, hey mouse blah blah jiu jitsu.
okay, back to being productive at work !

man i haven’t had a second to update today because i found a place to play dr. mario online i’ve been really busy and productive at work !
i’m still getting over this ridiculous cold ! last night i was so miserable and exhausted after work that i took a nap and barely got to enjoy jess and christina. mouse and i went to green line and i got a vegan chicken salad sandwich which was like, the best thing i’ve ever eaten and we talked about art. i guess. we talked about mouse taking a drawing class and me being too lazy to tune my guitar.
we also talked about how my entire life has been revolutionized. i’ve always had a lot of trouble being productive at work. like, my job is pretty low pressure and my only motivator at work was fear- like, “crap, i procrastinated til the last second and i HAVE to do this right now or i’m going to get in trouble/screw things up for everyone” type fear (my boss is really cool and i’d never get YELLED at but i hate disappointing her and her director would get on HER ass if i messed up). anyway, i realized that i am totally productive in my personal life and i do that by making to-do lists.
i know this sounds like the dumbest, simplest thing ever but i started making to-do lists for work and within a week (not even, cause i’ve been at work 3.5 days in november so far) i’ve become insanely productive and totally caught up and actually ahead of my game a little. it’s so much easier to get things done when everything is laid out in front of me in order and i can cross things off and feel like i accomplished something.
anyway, after i got back from green line i didn’t accomplish anything- i sat on the couch with christina and jess and watched gossip girl with them. i don’t watch that show or know anything about it, but i like to torture christina by asserting things about the plot. the whole time i was like, I’M PRETTY SURE THAT ONE IS GOSSIP GIRL and IS GOSSIP GIRL WORRIED EVERYONE WILL FIND OUT HER SECRET IDENTITY. at first christina would get furious and be like “gossip girl is not a person, it is a plot device !!!!” and “who is telling the story in hamlet? is it HAMLET? NO” but now she just gets very tight lipped and is like, “yes, that one is gossip girl, she is the biggest gossip of them all.”

i think this show is a mystery where the brown haired girl and blonde haired girl are gossip girl and neither knows the other is gossip girl and everyone else is trying to find out who gossip girl is. gossip boy is that asian-y looking dude. or the gay one. i also think gossip girl has a blog.
we are raiding tonight (our raids are tuesday, thursday, and sunday theoretically but TOC is so easy that we do 25 mans on tuesday, 10 mans on thursday, and nothing really on sunday now) but i desperately want to take a nap. christina and i are also going to have field roast italian sausages for dinner on rolls:
and some kind of pasta with lemon, garlic, and asparagus. !!!! though we’ve had caterers in the office all day for a tasting and the lingering smell of dirty dishwater and wet food from our kitchen has made me queasy and i may just eat a can of soup or something.

hayyyyyy. i had a busy weekend, kind of ! on friday, i’m pretty sure i didn’t do anything- maybe took some naps? i probably took an intense nap, and i leveled my shitty hunter alt from 68 to almost 70 (i did refer-a-friend with someone for my hunter and got from level 30 to level 60 in two days and as a result i have no idea how to play a hunter and am wearing like… level 40 rings). i also tamed a dumb corehound to replace brenda, my old tallstrider.
on saturday, christina and i actually got our shit together and did our laundry. we took a billion loads down to the laundromat and did some work at the coffee shop next door (sorrrrryyyy green line but i’m sick and didn’t feel like walking two blocks. if it helps, i didn’t enjoy it). i actually had a project to work on for work and i got like, 5% of it finished. i did have a hot apple cider though ! when we were done, we came back home and jess came down from new york for a conference ! she’s staying with us until tuesday.
okay, i didn’t actually get a picture of them together, so that is an artist’s rendering. they went out to a dance thing (i don’t goooo to dance things !) and mouse and i went to eat dinner at adobe in manayunk. we had a really good time, of course, but it was hard to eat when i couldn’t breathe and i couldn’t really taste much. i theoretically got the seitan tips sandwich and a side of guacamole but i don’t think i even finished half of it !
we came back to my house after and hung out with the ladies for awhile, and then watched some episodes of it’s always sunny in philadelphia, which i used to truly hate and have come around on. after mouse went home, i accidentally robo tripped and jess and christina came home to me sadly singing along with “a whole new world” and saying stuff like, “tom petty writes the most beautiful songs” (????)
then we watched 90s videos on youtube (including this super weird video of method man and this lilith fair band performing together).
on sunday, mouse and i were supposed to wake up early to have an adventure, but i barely slept because of my stupid cold, so he let me sleep in a little. then we went out to french creek state park where i couldn’t do much because i couldn’t breathe, but we took some pictures !

oh also we parked at a picnic site in the middle of the woods and there was an old fat guy there laying on a picnic table like a playboy centerfold, staring at us ! it creeped me out pretty bad. after we left, i went to whole foods where i panicked and got some lemons and like, prepared food instead of any of the stuff i actually needed.
annnnnnnnnd now i’m at work, still feeling sick, but now with a thousand things to do. hayyyy.
